With 930,000 young people out of work in 2013, youth unemployment remains a concern in Spain. The situation has led to a significant number of younger workers having to leave their homeland and seek work abroad. The others, who have not gone yet, are asking themselves a fundamental question: is it best to stay or go?
There are many reasons why young people should not seek employment outside of Spain. First of all, moving abroad is hard and you don’t always find what you are looking for. Secondly, learning another language is not easy, so most people learn a second language in their country before leaping abroad. A third point is feeling like a foreigner here and there.
However, we should also look at the incentives to go abroad. Firstly, several UE countries have much more opportunities and quite probably a better quality of life, Furthermore, some young people were sent by their parents to find work abroad whether they want to or not. Another point is that practicing the language in real environment can contribute to improving language learning
In conclusion, although there are undoubtedly some problems that young people have to overcome, I am convinced that the best option is to try their luck in Europe and continue gaining further qualifications. Maybe, one day our country will need them.
